The unique location of Almaty gives an opportunity to live in the city and make a one day backcountry tours in mountains.
For all off-piste skiing/snowboarding activity you should have “a must” avalanche safety gear: transceiver (with strong batteries), shovel and probe.
The price for tours includes pickup from city and return to desired spot after.
For foreign guests insurance coverage is highly recommended.

Kumbel peak, "3 Brothers", Kok-zhailau.
Skitouring gear recommended but not necessary.
Approximate route time: 4-6 hours. Common season: November – March.
Furmanov peak, "Kim-asar" gorge
Approximate time: 3-4 hours + 2 hours round trip with car.
Ski touring gear / snowshoes is mandatory.
Bukreev peak, "Butakovka" gorge, former Eliksay & Almatau
Approximate time: 3-4 hours + 2 hours round trip with car.

Trip in Trans-Ili Alatau
With Shymbulak all but tracked out, we had followed our trusty guide to Almaty’s other main ski resort, Akbulak. It was a good move. We arrived to vast amounts of new snow and no lift lines for the top half of the mountain. While Rage’s ridge-top traverse did remove a decent amount of ski base,… he once again served up the goods. Below us lay a steep gully, 40 meters wide, which snaked its way down through the trees. It was absolutely stacked with powder and yet held no ski tracks. To call that run ‘fun’ would simply dishonor the word fun; it was simply unreal. Every time I stopped to take in the moment I would look around to see and witness Mark and Hamish either airborne off a pillow or drowning in cold Kazakh powder. Russian, Kazakh or English; it didn’t matter what language you spoke that day. You could read it on everyone’s face; powder days are the best days. Steep, cheap and deep! Всем- привет! Хочу поделиться своими впечатлениями о ребятах из powder.kz/freeride.kz На снежной доске катаю 20 лет. Бывал во многих местах, в разных условиях и ситуациях. Стараюсь действовать по правилу “Хороший райдер- старый райдер”. В прошлом сезоне родилась идея открыть для себя Казахстан, как новую страну и регион катания. По традиции, задал вопрос местному другу, который… вывел на ребят из freeride.kz Дальше-все шло так, как правильно должно идти: Виталий дал полную предварительную информацию по региону и вариантам исполнения наших желаний. Евгений и Игорь были не только объективными консультантами по многим вопросам, касающимся “колорита”, но и нашими Гидами в дневном туре на Скалы Три Брата и отдельном двухдневном бэккантри-приключении в Юрте. Профессионализм, ответственность, общение на одном языке дали мне и моему коллеге Саше возможность не только от души открыть новые горизонты и оставить свой “первый след”, но и вернуться домой невредимыми, с полными рюкзаками впечатлений! Visiting the Tian Shan
Visiting the Tian Shan is about more than just skiing somewhere you may find wild. Vitaliy’s deep knowledge of the mountains and their history, combined with his experience, stretches beyond finding good powder. My time in Almaty taught me that I loved Georgian food. My time spent in cars with Kazakhs taught me how wonderful… they treat one another. My time on their skin track taught me that, once on snow, our skiing experience is similar, even thousands of miles from my home in the United States. It’s one of the only mountain ranges in the world that I can’t wait to visit again. Thank you, Vitaliy, for sharing your mountain range and breadth of knowledge with me and my friend, Robin.
